TOD’S Art Plus Film Party 2008
Art and film fused at the TOD’S Art Plus Film Party 2008, an extraordinary collaboration between the luxury group TOD’S SpA and the Whitechapel Art Gallery, brokered and co-produced by Nine AM.
The Whitechapel’s Art Plus celebrates the flashpoints of art and other cultural forms in an exceptional one-off event. The Whitechapel’s Director, Iwona Blazwick, TOD’S CEO Diego Della Valle and Art Plus Chairs Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst and Jade Jagger along with the committee of leading figures from the arts, fashion, film and music, invited guests to an extraordinary evening of live performance, film and music to raise funds for the Whitechapel’s Expansion and Education programme by buying tickets at £125 each.
Christian Marclay created an extraordinary artwork combining music, art and film, and film curator Ian White showed a glamorous montage of party scenes from classic Hollywood movies. Fashion designer Henry Holland created the invitation for the party, and celebrity DJs Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys) and David Dorrell played live sets, while Mourad Mazouz of Sketch created the soundtrack for the lounge bar. Guests had the opportunity to buy specially commissioned artworks by leading contemporary artists in an auction, which included work by Jim Lambie, who customised a TOD’S handbag especially for the sale.
